The XI Summer Camp IFK Kyokushin Uruguay

The XI Summer Camp IFK Kyokushin Uruguay took place on March 10-13, 2022.

As in previous years, Dojos from different cities of our organization gathered to celebrate being able to train in person together. Training sessions started before sunrise and continued throughout the day, with additional sessions at night. Different scenarios, including the beach, tatami, grass, and a special one surrounding a campfire at night, made this a unique experience.

This year we had participants from Montevideo, Mercedes, Dolores, Salto, Marindia and San Carlos. In addition to the 10 sessions, special training and meetings were held for instructors and advanced kyus.

Exams for KYU grades and DAN grades were held, with 3 of our colleagues successfully earning their 1st DAN.

Like every Summer Camp, this one left us with unique memories that will be treasured for years to come, and anecdotes that we will share over time!

On behalf of everyone, I want to thank each of the participants for their time, commitment and dedication; and above all for the positive energy at all times.

Families are also to be thanked for their continued support, as well as the instructors for their dedication and commitment.

We will see each other in 2023 for our XII Summer Camp!

OSU!

Summer camp of the NKA-IFK Netherlands

summer camp of the NKA-IFK Netherlands3.jpeg

During the weekend of Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th of September, the annual summer camp of the NKA-IFK Netherlands has taken place.

This year it was held in the National Sports Centre Papendal. Around 9 o’clock on Saturday morning, all 150 participants arrived and checked in, a busy training schedule was waiting for them. The first training started at 10 o’clock where the guest instructors were introduced, Shihan Felix Ntumazah and Sensei Darren Stringer. Most of the participants were already familiar with Sensei Darren Stringer who has been the guest instructor multiple times before. Besides Shihan Felix and Sensei Darren, Shihan Jeff Whybrow also attended the camp as a special guest.

summer camp of the NKA-IFK Netherlands2.jpeg

Both Saturday and Sunday were filled with multiple training sessions where the karatekas were given smaller sessions kata, combinations on pads, and kumite with different instructors. Even though the stay was in a hotel this time, the special night training could not be missed. So at 1 o’clock at night on Saturday, all karateka’s gathered to take part in the final session of the day.

Due to the COVID pandemic, the annual grading for the higher grades had been delayed for some time. For almost 30 karateka’s their grading could finally take place during this camp. On Saturday evening, all karateka’s grading for 1st Dan or higher had to take their technical kata grading and on Sunday morning it was time for all karateka’s grading for 1st kyu. On Sunday afternoon - after lots of tough sessions - the final kumite and stamina grading took place. All karatekas gave their best, while the other participants, family, and friends supported them – it was a very beautiful and respectful atmosphere. After a quick shower, it was time for the grading ceremony, and unfortunately, after that, time to say goodbye.

We again want to thank Shihan Felix Ntumazah and Sensei Darren Stringer for their contribution to this great camp. Congratulation to all candidates who passed their grading (see the list below). We would especially like to congratulate Shihan Stephano Blokland who was promoted to 5th dan.

IFK Uruguay closes out 2019 with a review

How can we summarize a great year for a small Martial Arts organization?

2019 FINAL copia.jpg

We accomplished the main goal of enhancing the training of all our instructors in every IFK technical area as well as with our referees to continue improving the work in the different competition modalities.

We had a competitor training at the highest level in San Paulo in a seminar led by the Russian Kumite National team Coach, Sensei Dimitry Savalyev, organized by IFK Brazil. Two months later, four of our instructors trained at the IFK World Seminar led by the highest ranks of our organization in the Papendal Olympic Complex in The Netherlands.

We held several national intensive weekend training sessions in Dolores and Mercedes as well as special sessions in Montevideo. We enjoyed yet another Summer Camp, the eight held in Uruguay, which by now has already become a classic. Trainings included sessions in the sand dunes, beach, forest and at night surrounding a fire; ending with the promotion of a new kuro obi.

Our National Team competed in five tournaments at national, regional and international level:
- April: IFK Kata World Tournament in Arnhem, organized by IFK Netherlands.
- May: Kanku Cap in Montevideo, organized by Kyokukaikan.
- August: 5th IFK Uruguay National Tournament in Montevideo, organized by IFK Uruguay.
- October: 4th South American Tournament in Valparaíso, organized by IFK Chile
- November: 1st Kenbukai Uruguay Tourament in Pinar, organized by Kenbukai Uruguay.

Lastly, we must highlight the achievement of many student that succeeded in their Kyu gradings during the six exam instances held in Soriano and Montevideo.

With the work and dedication of many, the essential support of our families and the collective spirit which is becoming stronger by the day, we are ready to start 2020 aiming for more.

For all of this, thank you very much to each one of you.
OSU!

17th IFK Kuwait Seminar with Shihan Nick Da Costa 7th Dan

IFK Kuwait completed their 17th training camp with Shihan Nick Da Costa , held between the 5th to 7th of Dec 2019.

The experience and depth of knowledge which was presented contributed to having another successful camp for IFK Kuwait.

One of the IFK Kuwait members who went for grading during the 2019 black belt grading in the BKK Summer camp and was not successful did a second attempt during the seminar here in Kuwait, and as explained by Shihan in previous e-mail, we are glad he managed to pass this time.
