Seminar in Romania with Shihan Alex Kerrigan and David Pickthall

Shihan Alex Kerrigan, IFK Chief Referee and Shihan David Pickthall held a seminar in Sibiu, Romania from 24-27 November organised by Country Representative Sensei Christian Hirsch and Sensei Iulian Birt.

Approximately 80 karateka took part in the sessions which featured kumite, knockdown referees courses plus a grading. 

The trip was also an opportunity to visit the venue for the 5th World Championships and meeting with the Vice President of the region council and the Vice Mayor of the city and discuss planning of the event.

Shihan Eddy Gabathuler Seminar in Belarus

Shihan Eddy Gabathuler of Switzerland conducted a seminar in Brest, Belarus on 22nd and 23rd of October.

Over 170 Karatekas from all over Belarus attend the course which focused on Kata and its Bunkai, stamina exercises and self defence especially locking and controlling the opponent.

2016 IFK Canada Seminar

This past weekend was the IFK Canada Seminar, with Shihan David Pickthall 6th Dan  vice-president of IFK. This was the second seminar hosted by IFK Canada, this time by our affiliate dojo in Quebec, Karaté Laval, under Senseï Jonathan Hemond 3rd Dan.

Shihan Pickthall is an amazing technician and such an inspiring teacher. Approaching his teaching with humor and giving us a clear understanding of the techniques. He made each class engaging and enthusiastic, you could feel the energy in the space. If you ever have the chance, we would highly recommend participating in one of Shihan Pickthaill's seminars.

On top of that, we were surrounded by many black belts, not only from the IFK, but other organizations as well. As it was an open seminar, and attendance was just over 100. IFK, Shinkyokushin, Kyokushin-kan , So-Kyokushin , Kanreikai and others all working together.

Classes focused on kihon, kumite drills, applications and sparring, as well on fitness and conditioning.

After Saturday evening’s training we attended the Sayonara Party for food, drinks and laughs. Meeting and getting to know our extended family.

During the closing class Sensei Steve Fogarasi talked about the growth of the IFK in Canada, and the openness of the organization. As mentioned, many different organizations were represented. It is so wonderful to belong to such a great nonpartisan organization.

Another highlight included the news that two more dojos will be joining IFK Canada from Quebec. Sensei Mikhail Zimmerman and Sempaï Marc Cabana with their dojos and students.

The IFK is growing fast and strong in Canada under the leadership of Sensei Fogarasi and all our IFK Canada black belts.

We want to thank Shihan David Pickthall for an amazing seminar, all students, sempais, senseis and shihans for sharing your knowledge. As well, thank you to Senseï Jonathan Hemond and Karaté Laval for organizing everything.

We look forward to next year when we have our annual summer camp and seeing how much we have grown.

Russian IFK Summer Camp 2016 report and video highlights

IFK Russia hosted their Summer Camp in Moscow on the 8th to 12th July under the direction of Hanshi Steve Arneil with the assistance of Shihan David Pickthall, country representative Alexander Taniushkin and Shihan Victor Fomin.

165 Karateka participated in the camp which is aimed towards the regional heads and many of the key organisers from Russia.

Hanshi focused on using various IFK teaching methods for kihon and kata and bunkai. Shihan Pickthall worked on kumite and kata training  plus sessions with students attempting dan grades.

There was also a presentation and session on Kyokushin Kick from Shihan Stanislav Vinokurov from Khabarovsk region, aimed at developing Kyokushin athletes into K-1 and MMA fighters.

As always the camp was organised superbly and thanks go out to Sensei Dmitry Shaposhnikov and the organizing team for their tremendous work.

A successful 3rd IFK World Black Belt Seminar - family from all across the globe

The 3rd IFK World Black Belt Seminar took place between 27th April and 1st May at the famous Papendal Olympic Sports Centre in the Netherlands.

Hanshi Steve Arneil along with his instructors Shihan's David Pickthall, Liam Keaveney, Alexander Taniushkin, Eddy Gabathuler, Janine Davies, Victor Fomin and Alexey Gorokhov hosted sessions on Kihon, Kata, Kumite and Weapons along with guest classes in BJJ and Krav Maga.  Additionally, special guest instructor Shihan Semmy Schilt joined the group.

175 black belts from 21 countries participated with a final-day "kyu grade" open day.

Countries included:
Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Belarus, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Great Britain, Germany, Israel, Iran, the Netherlands, Nepal, Norway, Poland, Romania, Russia, Switzerland, Ukraine, Uruguay, USA.

The IFK want to thank the organising team led by Sensei Kevin van der Boor who have done a tremendous job to make this event run smoothly.

World Black Belt Seminar, April 30th 2016, Papendal Holland

10th IFK Kuwait Camp / IFK Russia

IFK Kuwait recently completed the 2nd camp in Kuwait with instructors Shihan Bogushov Vasilii and Sensei Tochilov Artem from IFK Russia.

The camp was attended by by adults and juniors alike who were introduced to IFK Russia's training methods.

Weekend seminar in Sarnen, Switzerland with Shihan David Pickthall and Klaus Ming

Shihan Klaus Ming and the Obwalden dojo arranged a weekend seminar in Sarnen under the instruction of Shihan David Pickthall.
145 karateka including 44 black belts from 16 IFK dojo's and 3 Shinkyokushin dojos participated in sessions focusing on Kumite and Kata.

IFK Australia Summer Camp 2016

IFK – Australia Summer Camp Friday 22nd to Sunday 24th January 2016

We had a great time at the recent IFK-Australia Summer Camp with Shihan David Pickthall from the UK taking 3 days of great karate. Covering areas of Kihon, Kata and Kumite, with around 60 people attending the camp over the 3 days. 

What a treat to train with such a talented and inspirational Karateka such as Shihan David Pickthall. Again the highlight of the camp was the beach session on the Sunday morning we all had a lot of fun.

Again it is great to see other Kyokushin Organisations supporting this event, thank you to Sensei Daniel Trifu from (KWF) AFK, Sensei Graeme Rose “Rengokai”, Sensei Daniel Langworthy and Shihan Trevor Trainer and for bringing along your students. As we are all working towards a United Kyokushin! Osu and thank you for your support.

 Can’t wait for the camp again next year, OSU!”

International Federation of Karate (Kyokushin) Canada, hosted a seminar with guest instructor Shihan David Pickthall, vice president of the IFK, at Contact Kicks Dojo in Toronto, Canada.

The 1st Full Contact Karate Camp - history in the making

The 1st Full Contact Karate Camp, open to all participants of contact karate, was held in Ostende Belgium 5-7 June, and organised by Shihan Keon Spitaels and Shihan Gilbert Cleveringa of WKO Shinkyokushin.

The Camp had over 400 karateka from 19 different countries and was supported by the IFK from Poland, Ireland, The Netherlands, France, Germany, Switzerland, UK and Belgium.

Other countires included: USA - CANADA - NORWAY - POLAND - DENMARK - SWEDEN - LITHUANIA - IRELAND - THE NETHERLANDS - FRANCE - GERMANY - SWISS - AUSTRIA - SPAIN - JAPAN - LUXEMBOURG - UK - ROMANIA - BELGIUM

IFK Norway Summer Camp 2015 with Shihan Janine Davies and Sensei Darren Stringer

This year’s camp was held under the instruction of Shihan Janine Davies and Sensei Darren Stringer.

Around 150 karateka had sessions in IFK syllabus, Kata and Kumite and a dan grading was conducted under the control of Shihan Janine.

IFK Spain Seminar with Shihans David Pickthall and Felix Ntumazah

On the 18th April, IFK Spain hosted a well attended fighting seminar, in Valencia,  with special guests Shihan David Pickthall and Felix Ntumazah

Australian Summer Camp with Shihan Pickthall

The IFK Australia hosted their Summer Camp in Sydney from 23rd-25th January under the guidance of Shihan David Pickthall.  There were 10 sessions covering aspects of the IFK Syllabus, Kata and Kumite plus beach training. This open event was also supported by senior instructors of other Kyokushin groups.

Thanks go to Shihan Doug Turnbull and Senseis Shaharin Yussof and Jenny Fuller for all their hard work organising the event.

Another great British Summer camp held in Felsted, Essex

Hanshi and his team of top BKK instructors held another successful adult and junior summer camp in Felsted, Essex.

Students were taken through kihon and bunkai and kumite.  An evening seminar with our Italian country representative Sensei Andrea Stoppa on basic BJJ skills.

A national and camp grading was also held for those attempting high grades including the promotion of three new third dans.

Inter Regional "Bushido Mon" Summer Camp 2014 - Russia

On the 25th June – 2nd July on the “Komponent” base near Moscow there was held Inter-regional “Bushido Mon” Summer Camp with Shihan Victor Fomin (VI Dan), assistant instructor– Sensei Yulia Tseytlina (IV Dan).

There were 70 participants from Moscow (sport clubs “Bushido Mon”, “Severny”, “Shiroi Tora”, “Bercut”, “Delta”, “Lefortovo”),Moscow region (Podolsk, Schelkovo), Tula, Gai (Orenburg region), Shihany(Saratov region). The Guest of Honour was Shihan Eddy Gabathuler (Country Representative of Switzerland, VI Dan) with his student Andreas Janka (2nd kyu).

8 hours a day training was concentrated on Budo karate – detailed learning of the IFK Syllabus combined with self-defense. The last one included bare hands and weapons training: Bo, Knife, Jawara with Shihan Victor Fomin and Tonfa with Shihan Eddy Gabathuler. Sayonara training session was traditionally dedicated to sword tameshigiri.

Summer camp and seminars held in Romania and Turkey

Two seminars were held last weekend - May 30th  to June 1st.

Country Representative Christen Herman Hirsh organised an open seminar in Sibiu, Romania with Hanshi Arneil assisted by Shihan Eddy Gabathuler.  For more Romania photos visit our Facebook album.

 Meanwhile in Turkey Country Representative Omer Salih Cengiz and Ismail Yildirim conducted an IFK seminar with 275 participants.
